ABOUT
JAY ROBEY - AWARD WINNING DIRECTOR
I’ve always had a passion for Drama and Film, after working on the set of Jason Statham’s Blitz. Fast-tracked into directing through the BBC, starting with live news, it was inevitable I was going to move into films and dramas.
My first film getting recognised with two nominations at the Madrid International film festival gave me the confidence to pursue my dream.
Winning my first award in 2019 for ‘Car Pool Poker’ is my current career highlight.
The Old Turk proved my next challenge, and was recognised on the Film circuit with nominations.
Drip proved to be a challenge as this was produced/shot/edited all within covide restrictions but with a stella cast that involved Sam Sidall and Jack P. Shepherd the film has been a fantastic success with awards coming in from every angle.
Future projects include the award winning script 'Dig Dipper' written by Rick Limentani, music video for up coming artist Ellie Telford.
A drama series is under development with highly regarded writer Peter Spencer 'Shadow Child' should be getting into pre-production this year.
FILMOGRAPHY
Car Pool Poker
January 2018
This fun filled thriller set on the streets of Manchester brings together two great actors (Joe McCann and Paul Barber). Having actors who are this experienced make it a delight to direct and learning from their experience was fantastic.
In Echoes 'BE'
May 2019
Coming up with an idea for a music video that has a 'different feel and look' to it proved a challenge. Using the bands practise rooms in a dis-used mill was the perfect setting. With some clever camera work and clever editing we got the desired clever affect.
BBC Newsround
October 2015 - present
A daily news programme for children aged 5-14. The live show
brings the young audience daily
current news in a way that makes
it understandable and easy to digest. With a daily viewing of around 1 million people a show, the studio based live has a mixture of intereactive, live locations and real guests that aim to answer the most trivial question in a way children can engage with.

The Old Turk
Febuary 2019
The Old Turk was shot in a local pub in Dewsbury town centre. Using local talent and local crew made this a special production. Shot over a full weekend this short shows the full ability of a small crew and cast.
Judgement
March 2017
My first short film. We made a purpose built set in a warehouse and spray painted the walls on. Working with a true theatre legend (Tony Bessick) and a welcomed relatively new actor (Adam Woodward) made this for a challenging first film.
In Echoes 'FREE ME'
January 2019
The sensitive subject nature of this music video meant it was important to set the right mood. I came up with the idea of having a 'short film' style to the video as this helped get the message across. We shot this in one day in and around the idilic setting of Ripponden.
Symphony for Yorkshire
January 2013
An audacious task and challenge to record a symphony with over 100 musicians all around Yorkshire. Ensuring that everyone turned up and was in place at the right time proved to be the hardest part. The end result is one that received a European Prix de Circom award.

Drip
October 2020
Drip is a challenging film based on the mental health of our leading lady. Overcoming issues of Covid, child acting licences and a short time in which to shoot this film. Using experienced team players made this script even easier to shoot allowing time to be used to get the most out of the talent.
